Mike Maddux has been a flatpicker since he first went to Winfield and heard flatpicking guitar music.
His credentials include contest victories in Colorado, Wyoming, and Kansas, including several top five, and one third place finish at the National Flatpicking Championships.
Mike was guitarist and lead vocalist with the award winning bluegrass band Heartland, and now play regularly with his wife Bertye, and "The Mike and Bertye Maddux Band". For live performances in a noisy venue, Mike uses a 1981 Martin HD-28. The guitar is equipped with the Thinline Acoustic Plus under the saddle pickup, with on-board pre-amp. The amp is the Soundboard, from High Cliff.
In the studio, Mike alternates between a 1936 Martin D-18, a 1956 Martin D-28, and a 1995 Taylor Dan Crary Signature cutaway. For jazz gigs and recordings he uses an Epiphone Emperor.
