Scale Practice
In volumes 1 and 2 of Flatpicking Essentials, you were
given some basic one octave major scales to work with in the keys of G,
C, D, and A. You were also given some etudes (practice exercises)
that were scale-based in volumes 1 and 3. On this page of the web
site I will give you some other scales and scale-based exercises that
you can practice in order to further your knowledge of major scales.
The first set of scales are major scales that cover all
six strings of the guitar and range from the open strings to the 5th
fret. In volumes 1 through 3 of the course, we only work within the
range of the first 5 frets of the guitar neck. In volume 4 we cover
scales that move up the neck. For now, practice through these scales
in the keys of C, G, D, A, F, E, and B in order to familiarize yourself
with the notes of these scales as they lay out on the neck on the
first 5 frets.
